Belgian-born Martin Margiela launched his namesake label in 1988. Throughout his career Margiela opted for anonymity, seldom making public appearances and consistently refusing to grant interviews. Moreover, challenging to dismantle the concept of beauty of the era. In 2009, the ever-elusive designer quietly left the fashion house, following which the line was helmed by its Paris-based design team until the appointment of John Galliano as creative director in 2014. Famed for its avant-garde aesthetic, Maison Margiela continues to push the envelope of modern design.
