POLYPLOID
POLYPLOID was founded in Berlin in 2017 by German designer Isolde Auguste Richly, who graduated with distinction in fashion design from KHB Weissensee Berlin, a university of art in Berlin. The brand takes its name from the scientific term *polyploidy*, which refers to the multiplication of genetic material in biology. Reflecting this concept, each collection develops a single pattern across three categories—A, B, and C—each expressed through different materials. Category A features garments made entirely from white calico, a natural, undyed cotton fabric traditionally associated with tailoring. By reducing each garment to its most essential form, Category A establishes the foundation of the design. Categories B and C build on these base silhouettes, introducing different materials to explore new concepts, functionality, and visual expressions. The brand’s color palette follows a distinctive system, with each pattern available in six colors: one off-white for Category A, two colors for Category B, and three colors for Category C. Richly’s design process is supported by production facilities in Germany and Japan. Garments made from materials sourced in Europe are produced in Germany, while those using Japanese fabrics are manufactured in Japan. This dual production approach allows the brand to make the most of the unique qualities of each material and production method. Bringing together teams with years of technical expertise, POLYPLOID combines the strengths of German and Japanese craftsmanship to create collections that are innovative yet timeless.
