About "New Manual"

New Manual is a brand led by Hiroshi Fujiwara, a renowned vintage denim advisor, with a concept focused on reexamining and reinterpreting the quality and appeal of items from past eras through a modern lens. The brand questions, "What makes it different? What makes it good? And what’s missing?" to create a new "manual" for today.

With professionals from various fields gathered under Fujiwara’s direction, New Manual meticulously focuses on every detail of denim, fabric production, and processing, while drawing inspiration from vintage craftsmanship. The brand is dedicated to creating contemporary clothing that transcends vintage, offering pieces cherished in the present day.

#001 T-BACK DENIM JACKET

ONE-WASHED

The New Manual #001 is based on a denim jacket design from 1941-1942. It features a drop-shoulder silhouette, wide sleeves, and a straight, uncinched body. One of its key elements is the T-back detail*, a signature feature of Fujiwara's designs. While maintaining the stitching techniques and directions from the original era, modern reinforcements have been added for durability. Adjustments were also made to the silhouette, such as the length and armholes, to make it more contemporary.

*The T-back refers to the back panel of the jacket being split into two pieces in a T-shape. This was originally done to accommodate larger sizes by joining two pieces of fabric at the center back, rather than using one continuous piece.

#006 LV 2ND T-BACK JACKET

ONE-WASHED

The New Manual #006 is based on a rare denim jacket featuring the T-back* detail, modeled after a size 52 or larger jacket—an elusive size with only four known examples in Japan, according to Fujiwara. The silhouette retains its signature drop shoulders, wide sleeves, and straight, boxy body. To ensure better wearability without losing its original balance, the silhouette has been subtly updated. The armholes have also been slightly enlarged, allowing for easier layering.

*The T-back design refers to the back panel being separated into two pieces in a T-shape, a method originally used to create larger sizes by joining two fabric pieces at the center back instead of using a single continuous piece.

#012 LV 36’s T-BACK JACKET

ONE-WASHED

The New Manual #012 is based on a pre-1936 denim jacket, known for its distinctive details such as smaller-than-usual buttons (referred to as "small buttons"), a compact collar, and rounded, irregularly shaped pocket flaps. According to Fujiwara, this type of T-back* detail has only been found on one jacket in Japan. For this release, a larger size 48 was intentionally selected, and the armholes were slightly enlarged for easier layering. The jacket is crafted from NM's original denim.

#018 LV T-BACK JACKET WITH COTTON LINER

ONE-WASHED

The New Manual #018 is based on a rare denim jacket produced for only about three years in the 1950s. This version features a wool blanket lining, but to enhance thickness, texture, and shrinkage, cotton flannel was used as the liner while maintaining the original striped color scheme. This jacket is crafted from the largest size 50 of that era and incorporates a T-back* detail. Adjustments to the length and other elements result in a more comfortable silhouette, making it an ideal choice for winter wear. It is made from NM's original denim.

#019 LV TRACKER JACKET LONG

ONE-WASHED

New Manual #019 is based on a rare model of the denim jacket that debuted in 1961, characterized by its longer length. While it retains the original's perfect fit, adjustments have been made to the sleeve length and the width of the upper arm for improved comfort. The back's shaped line has been relaxed to bring it closer to a boxy silhouette. Although the base jacket is a size 44, the overall fit has been adjusted to resemble a size 48.

#002 1942 LV JEANS

ONE-WASHED

New Manual #002 is based on the 5PKT denim pants produced in 1941-1942, making it the oldest model in Fujiwara's denim collection. This pair is designed to be paired with #001, creating a rare opportunity to have a complete set, as such matching items are seldom available. While the pattern is rooted in the original design, adjustments have been made to better fit the Japanese body shape. The original hip area has been modified to prevent pinching, and the rise is slightly deeper, offering a straight silhouette that tapers lightly from the thigh to the hem.

#010 LV SUPER SLIM JEANS IDG

ONE-WASHED

New Manual #010 is based on the predecessor of the model known as the "SUPER SLIM," specifically a pair of denim pants produced during the short period from 1961 to 1966. The pattern has been faithfully recreated from deadstock owned by Fujiwara, but to enhance modern wearability, adjustments were made solely to prevent pinching in the hip area. This release also introduces a new color option, black, which did not exist in the 1960s, resulting in a two-color offering. The final product prioritizes contemporary strength and impeccable quality, free from distortion.

#017 LV 61's TAPERED JEANS

ONE-WASHED

New Manual #017 is based on the prototype model of the slim straight fit that continues to this day. This rare version features a button closure instead of the original zip. Adjustments have been made to the original's hip area to prevent pinching, and the length has been tailored to provide a perfect fit. NM original denim has been used for this piece.

#022 LV MCQUEEN PANTS IND

#022 LV MCQUEEN PANTS BK

#022 LV MCQUEEN PANTS BEG

ONE-WASHED

New Manual #022 is based on the tapered pants from the 1960s, inspired by Steve McQueen. Originally, these pants did not feature belt loops; however, to enhance convenience, belt loops have been added. Additionally, one extra snap button has been included for easier size adjustment. The silhouette retains the original's elegance and includes a center crease. This time, the pants are made from NM original denim, inspired by denim slacks, which is not found in the original design. Available in sizes 31 and 34, they are suggested for a perfect fit.
